The FAQ listed below are only about the adjustable benefits of leg fins. For all FAQ please see the FAQ summary.
Leg fins easily fit people with small feet and narrow feet. So choose fins that strap on your legs, not on your feet. Then the fins will still fit you comfortably, even if you have small, narrow feet, with low or high arches and insteps.
This is because leg fins don’t enclose your feet at all. They strap just above your ankles. The lower part of the fin lies gently along the top of your foot. It doesn’t attach to your foot in any way.
So they still fit you, even if you have unusually shaped feet. The size and shape of your feet doesn’t affect how they fit. So you can wear them whatever your foot size or shape. In fact, foot amputees, below knee amputees and above knee amputees, can wear them too.
If you have particularly small feet, the fins might stick out a little more from your toes. This doesn’t affect your swimming but it can make walking a little bit harder. Walking is still better than with foot flippers! If it bothers you, then you can just slide the fins a bit higher up your legs to compensate.
This is all in complete contrast to foot fins. If you have narrow, small feet, perhaps differently shaped, with high or low arches and insteps, it can be very hard to find foot fins that fit you without hurting. Foot fins often rub your feet and give you blisters on your heels and toes. They also squash your feet and cause cramps in your feet, ankles and calf muscles. And foot pain takes away your enjoyment of swimming.
In summary, unlike foot fins, with leg fins it doesn’t matter if you have small, narrow feet, low or high insteps and arches, or unusually shaped feet. Your foot shape and size doesn’t matter for how they fit. So leg fins can be worn by people with any foot size and shape.
Leg fins easily fit people with large feet and wide feet. So choose fins that strap on your legs, not on your feet. Then the fins will still fit you comfortably, even if you have big, wide feet with low or high arches and insteps.

Fins that strap on your legs, fit people with narrow calves and thin legs. The centre of these fins flexes inwards to match your leg shape. So even if your legs are very thin and your calves are very narrow, the fins will still fit you.
They match your leg shape by bending around your shin. You can adjust the fin height on your leg for the most comfortable fit.
The straps go around the narrowest part of your leg, just above your ankle. So please measure the circumference around this narrowest part. If this circumference is 20-40 cm (8-16 inches) then the standard straps supplied with the fins will fit you.
If this circumference is less than about 20 cm (8 inches), then the fin centre may not bend inwards quite enough. Then you may like to wear your fins over a wetsuit. The wetsuit effectively thickens your lower leg.
Fins that strap on your legs, fit people with broad calves and large legs. The centre of these fins flexes outwards to match your leg shape. So, if you have large legs and/or very broad calves the fins will still fit you.
They wrap around your shin to match your leg shape. You can also slide them up or down your leg for the most comfortable fit.
You just need to check which fin strap length you need to fit you.

If this circumference is 20-40 cm (8-16 inches) then the standard straps supplied with the fins will fit you. If this circumference is larger than 40 cm (16 inches), then just select the option for longer straps when you order your fins.
Fins that strap on your legs, fit very well on small people with short legs. So, even if you are a small person about 140 cm (4 feet 7 inches) tall, with short legs, the fins will still fit you.
One fin size fits everyone over about 140 cm (4 feet 7 inches). Actually, they will still fit you even if you are a bit shorter than 140 cm (4 feet 7 inches). They just stick out a bit more past your feet. So walking might be a bit harder. Swimming with them is still fine.
Having shorter legs doesn’t really affect how the fins fit on your legs. Whatever your leg length, the straps still go around your leg just above your ankle. The straps are also highly adjustable to fit you properly.
Fins that strap on your legs, fit very well on tall people with long legs. So, even if you are a tall person up to about 200 cm (6 feet 6 inches) tall, with long legs, the fins will still fit you.
Being tall doesn’t affect how they fit on your legs. This is because the fins fit at the bottom of your legs. Having a long leg length above the fins doesn’t make any difference to how the fins fit your leg. The straps adjust easily to fit around your leg just above your ankle.
For fins that will keep fitting growing children up to adult size, choose fins that strap on your legs. Then you don’t need to keep buying new foot fins every time your shoe size changes. If you are still growing, these fins will keep fitting you.
They fit regardless of your foot size and shape. The fin centre flexes inwards to fit younger, thinner legs. As you get older and your legs grow larger, the fin centre flexes outwards to keep fitting you.
One size easily fits everyone taller than about 140 cm (4 feet 7 inches) up to very tall people about 200 cm (6 feet 6 inches) tall. Actually, they will still fit you if you are a bit shorter than 140 cm (4 feet 7 inches). They just stick out a bit more past your feet. Swimming with them is still fine. Walking might be a bit harder but will get easier as you grow.
Regular length straps fit most people up to large adult size. The straps go around the narrowest part of your leg, just above your ankle. If this circumference stays within the range 20-40 cm (8-16 inches) then the regular straps will keep fitting you. But if you expect that you will grow so this circumference will become larger than 40 cm (16 inches), then you will need the longer straps.
For fins that will fit you both with a wetsuit and without a wetsuit, choose fins that strap on your legs. The centre of these fins flexes to fit over your wesuit. You just need to check that you select long enough straps to fit over your wetsuit too.
So in warmer water, you can wear the same fins without a wetsuit. When the water is colder, you can adjust the straps to wear the same fins over a wetsuit. The fins will still fit you.
The straps go around the narrowest part of your leg, just above your ankle. You need to measure the circumference around this narrowest part whilst wearing your wetsuit. If this circumference is 20-40 cm (8-16 inches) then the standard straps supplied with the fins will fit you. For circumference larger than 40 cm (16 inches), you will need the longer straps.
If you prefer to measure your leg circumference without your wetsuit, then just add the following to your measurement to compensate. For a thin 3mm suit add 2 cm (1 inch). For a thick 8mm suit add 5 cm (2 inches).
For fins that are easy to share with your family and friends, choose fins that strap on your legs. This is because they adjust to fit a wide range of people of varying heights, builds and foot sizes.
With regular foot fins, people with different foot sizes each need a different foot fin size to fit them.
With fins on your legs, foot size doesn’t matter at all. They fit you regardless of your foot size. Your foot size doesn’t matter.
They also adjust to fit different leg sizes and shapes. The one size easily fits everyone taller than about 140 cm (4 feet 7 inches) up to about 200 cm (6 feet 6 inches) tall. They still fit if you are a bit shorter than 140 cm (4 feet 7 inches). They just stick out a bit further from your feet. Swimming with them is still fine.
Fins that are easy to share with family and friends can save you a lot of money too.
