Your ideal body surfing fins?
Have you ever dreamed of comfortable body surfing fins with streamlined power and smooth control on the wave? Have you ever wished for fins that don’t strain your feet, ankles, Achilles tendons and calf muscles, so you can body surf longer and catch more waves? Do you long for body surfing fins that leave your feet free to swim naturally and walk easier than with foot flippers? Can you picture yourself body surfing using a natural, efficient kick with power from the strong muscles in your thighs, buttocks, stomach and torso? Bodysurfers around the world are switching to shinfinTM fins for all these benefits and more. I have thousands of happy customers. Read on to see how shinfinTM fins will help you achieve your body surfing dreams.
Comfortable body surfing fins, stay out longer
shinfinTM fins don’t hurt your toes, feet, ankles or Achilles tendons. They don’t give you foot cramps or calf cramps. They don’t blister and cut your feet or fill with sand. So you don’t need fin socks or booties either. The end result is body surfing fins that are more comfortable than your old foot flippers. So you can body surf for longer, catch more waves and have more fun.
Control on waves
shinfinTM fins lie streamlined along your shins. They are not angled down like foot flippers. So these body surfing fins don’t cause unwanted foot lift or drag like foot flippers. The fin power surface is closer to your body for an exciting ride in the power zone. You can drop your body deeper into the wave power zone if you like. They help you become more streamlined for a faster ride with positive control on the wave.
Powered dolphin turns on waves
To turn on the wave with shinfinTM fins, twist your waist to press the fins sideways against the water. This creates a smooth, curved hollow in the water, like dolphins turn. (This is different to digging foot flipper edges into the water to turn.) To turn with power just continue to kick while you are turning. This also allows you to turn and duck under a wave. Dolphin kicks work well for the last kicks as you dive under the wave.
Streamlined kick, strong muscles
shinfinTM fins feel natural and streamlined for body surfing. They encourage you to kick from your hips without bending your knees too much. So they keep your legs and body streamlined to reduce drag and improve control on the wave. I have designed them for a good streamlined kick like swimmers use for freestyle, backstroke or fly (not breaststroke). If this is new to you, don’t worry, as they will teach you. Just relax and let the fins flow naturally and they will guide you. You will feel the power coming from your upper legs, buttocks and torso. If this good swimmer style of streamlined kick is new to you, then it may take a few sessions to build your strength in your upper legs and torso. (Foot flippers cause a different kick with much more knee bend so that you feel the strain in your lower legs and feet. Don’t do your old foot flipper kick with shinfinTM fins.)
Tread water freestyle & eggbeater
You can easily tread water with shinfinTM fins whilst waiting for a wave. You can tread water using a freestyle kick or an eggbeater kick like water polo players do.
Turn fast to catch waves
With shinfinTM fins you can turn quickly to catch a wave. Point your legs down in the water and kick forwards with one leg at the same time as a kicking backwards with the other leg. This spins your upper body all the way around in one kick, almost immediately. Turning and other manoeuvres feel far more natural than with foot flippers.
Stand & push off from sandbanks
With shinfinTM fins your feet are free to stand on the bottom whilst waiting for the next wave. You can dig your toes into the sand for stability. Just push off the bottom with your feet to catch the wave. So these body surfing fins make it much easier to catch a wave from a standing start on a sandbank, compared to foot flippers.
Easier to walk into water
Walking with shinfinTM fins is much easier than walking in foot flippers. When walking in shallow water, lift your knees higher than normal so the fins slide upwards and forwards through the water. Then place your foot down quickly on the bottom for the next step. The straps should be secure enough so the fins do not slip around your leg. If there is a current, don’t worry about the fins bending in the direction of the current. They are designed to do that to reduce the water drag on the fins. The fins should line up automatically as soon as you dive in and kick. It gets easier once you are thigh deep because the water supports you better.
Body surfing fins that don’t fall off
The double straps go around your leg above your ankle and don’t slip off over your heel. So shinfinTM fins don’t fall off in the surf like foot flippers do. That’s why you don’t need the fin leashes (fin savers) that many body surfers use to tether foot flippers to their ankles. You won’t find these body surfing fins washed up on the beach.
Light body surfing fins, don’t break
shinfinTM fins are lightweight and made from tough polyurethane. So they don’t tear or break like foot flippers. They are about half the weight of many foot flippers and many times stronger. So these body surfing fins will last you for years. We have had no failures returned to us. The secure rubber straps are also tough but they will gradually wear with use and exposure to the UV in sunlight. Replacement straps are available from this website if you need them.
Body surfing fins fit with & without wetsuit
The one size of shinfinTM fins fits with or without your wetsuit. In fact, they are so adjustable that the one size replaces all the typical foot flipper sizes from small and medium through to extra large. So they can be shared with different sized people too.
Add shinfinTM fins & foot fins
For maximum sprint power and wave-riding surface, you can even wear shinfinTM fins with regular foot fins too. Please note that this is not for everyone. Your legs must be really strong to drive both sets of fins.
