Fit with & without wetsuit
The one size of shinfinTM fins fits with or without your wetsuit. In fact, they are so adjustable that the one size replaces all the typical foot flipper sizes from small and medium through to extra large. So you can share these safety fins with different sized people too.
Comfortable water safety fins
shinfinTM fins don’t hurt your toes, feet, ankles or Achilles tendons. They don’t give you dangerous foot cramps or calf cramps. They don’t blister and cut your feet or fill with sand. So you don’t need fin socks or booties either. These safety fins let you share the swimming effort between your legs and arms to help you recover from an emergency.
Easy to walk to & from water
Walking with shinfinTM fins is much easier than walking in foot flippers. When walking in shallow water, lift your knees higher than normal so the fins slide upwards and forwards through the water. Then place your foot down quickly on the bottom for the next step. The straps should be secure enough so the fins do not slip around your leg. If there is a current, don’t worry about the fins bending in the direction of the current. They are designed to do that to reduce the water drag on the fins. The fins should line up automatically as soon as you kick. It gets easier once you are thigh deep because the water supports you better.
Fins can fit higher on legs
You can wear them a bit higher on your legs if you need to. You probably won’t need to slide them too far up, maybe not much at all. The fins should slide over the top of the foot strap anyway. There will be a bit more drag if water hits the fins. For example, when wearing them on a surf ski just leave the fins in the normal position with the fin tips at about your toenails. Similarly for windsurfing and kite surfing.
Water safety fins that don’t fall off
The double straps go around your leg above your ankle and don’t slip off over your heel. So shinfinTM fins don’t fall off like foot flippers do. That’s why you don’t need the fin leashes (fin savers) that many people use to tether foot flippers to their ankles. You won’t find these safety fins littering the ocean floor.
Fins fit foot straps
Regarding foot straps on water craft, I think you will find that the friction between the fins and the foot straps is much lower when they are wet. So it is easier to get your feet in the foot straps when wearing the fins. This will let you wear the fins in the proper position lower down on your legs, with the fin tips somewhere near your toes. Just point your toes away from the tips of the fins a bit when you put your feet into the foot straps. Even if the fin tips catch a bit, they are very flexible so they just bend away and you hardly even notice. The fin tips are flexible enough to slide over the foot strap. The foot strap fits over your foot as normal but under the fin tips.
Light, strong, don’t break
shinfinTM fins are lightweight and made from tough polyurethane. So they don’t tear or break like foot flippers. They are about half the weight of many foot flippers and many times stronger. So these surfing fins will last you for years. We have had no failures returned to us. The secure rubber straps are also tough but they will gradually wear with use and exposure to the UV in sunlight. Replacement straps are available from this website if you need them.
