Hip therapy & walking: exercise fins

Following his hip replacement, Nick’s shinfinTM fins are an important part of his therapy, which including for water walking exercise and lap swimming. Light and flexible, he finds them perfect for strengthening his glutes and leg muscles because they encourage him to kick with power from his hips. Furthermore, his myofascial back muscle pain is lessening too.

Nick’s review from White Bear Lake, USA

“My experience with them has been very good. I’m trying to get back into some sort of condition after hip replacement surgery. shinfinTM fins made sense to me. Light, flexible and perfect for strengthening my legs and glutes after several years of a deteriorating hip, followed by hip replacement surgery. I look forward to shinfinTM fins as the last part of my workout in a therapy pool. If I have any energy left after the laps, then I use the fins in some walking exercises in the pool. They’ve become an important part of my therapy and are such an improvement over the inflexible, heavy, awkward old-fashioned fins. In all, I look forward to a longer and happier life with my shinfinTM fins.”

Nick’s review: Hip replacement therapy & water walking exercise fins

“My experience with them has been very good. I’m trying to get back into some sort of condition after hip replacement surgery. I exercise in a therapy pool with lots of older (well, older than I am) people. Many of whom have mild to moderate cognitive or physical handicaps. Several physical therapists who work at the pool have watched me use my shinfinTM fins and have started to ask about them.”

“It’s been over forty years since I’ve done laps in a pool voluntarily. But now I look forward to shinfinTM fins as the last part of my workout in a therapy pool. If I have any energy left after the laps, then I use the fins in some walking exercises in the pool.”

“In other words, they’ve become an important part of my therapy and are such an improvement over the inflexible, heavy, awkward old-fashioned fins. But they do take some getting used to. Well worth it, though.”

Many thanks for your permission. Please keep in touch and happy swimming.

(Later) I was just wondering how you have been getting on with the shinfinTM fins over the last couple of months? So have they helped you to get back into condition?

Nick

“Yes, they have helped. I did manage a 5.6 mile walk around a loch on the Balmoral Estate in mid-May, and that was my goal from the day I decided to get a new hip.”

“My lower and mid back muscles are beginning to be happier, according to my myofascial release therapist. My stamina is slowly increasing. At 66 what would you expect? I expect to be swimming more laps in the pool in about a month’s time, with my shinfinTM fins.”

“In all, I look forward to a longer and happier life with my shinfinTM fins.”

Many thanks for your email and glad to hear your recovery is going well.

Conclusion

Following hip replacements and knee surgery etc., shinfinTM fins can be an important part of your recovery therapy, including for water walking exercise and lap swimming. Most important, you will find that they encourage you to kick with power from your hips. So they strengthen your glutes and leg muscles with less back muscle pain too.

This other review shows how they can be used after knee replacements too. Overall, they are flexible, lightweight and give you better balance for safer water therapy.
