Walk, stand & maneuver easily: powerful body surfing fins

shinfinTM fins give Pete powerful body surfing and also let him walk and stand in the water, and maneuver easily to catch waves. This is because they attach to his legs, so his feet are free. Furthermore, kick power comes from his hips, using the stronger muscles in his thighs, buttocks and torso. So his end result is better control on the waves, faster body surfing and less fatigue.

Pete’s review from Harrington Park, USA

“They’re great. Biggest benefit is you don’t have to put them on in the water. And you can walk in the ocean with them on. Plus, they give you plenty of power to get the fatter waves. And when you want to take a break from swimming, you can stand in them. Big plus, as you can’t stand in the water with regular fins on.”

“Took my shinfinTM fins with me on my world body surfing tour this summer. They worked great, especially taking into consideration the vicious shore break there. They are very easy to maneuver around in once you are out there too. And no problem standing at all when you are only up to your waist, to take a break. You can walk in as opposed to swimming in all the time, so the fatigue factor is much less.”

“They’re great, can you send me another pair for my friend?”

Thank you for your kind reply Pete. I’m glad to hear you find them great. What activities are you using them for? Thank you for your second order too. I just put that through. All the best.

“Body surfing in the the still chilly Atlantic (69 degrees)!”

That’s similar to Sydney water temperatures, and it’s winter here! I’d be interested to hear a bit more about how the fins feel to you for your body surfing, if you get a moment to email me please. Any questions just ask, I am here to help.

Yes, a lot of people like those benefits you mention. Your fins for your friend should arrive soon.

“Took my shinfinTM fins with me on my world body surfing tour this summer. Here I am at Makapu’u, Oahu. They worked great especially taking into consideration the vicious shore break there. I got a few questions from some of the locals on them. They are very easy to maneuver around in once you are out there too.”

“And no problem standing at all when you are only up to your waist, to take a break. You can walk in as opposed to swimming in all the time, so the fatigue factor is much less. I also found out that these are much easier to get on and off by merely straightening out your foot and sliding them through the straps and then pulling them up instead of undoing the straps all the time.”

I’m glad that you find they work great. From your photo, it looks like you are fitting them a bit higher than I would normally recommend. Instead, I would recommend that the fin tips should reach about the end of your toes, with your toes pointed. You can line the fins up on any toe, the aim being to get the fins lying across your kick direction. It is worth experimenting with this to optimise your kick power.

“Thanks Marc. Cold weather comes quickly here, so now I can only wait for waves and hope. The end of body surfing season here is usually mid-September so I may not get out again till next year!”

Thanks for your reply Pete. Well, I hope you manage another few surfs this season. I look forward to hearing how you go with the lower fin position. I think you’ll find them even better.

Pete

“Thanks again Marc.”

Conclusion

In addition to giving you powerful body surfing, shinfinTM fins also let you walk and stand in the water, and maneuver easily to catch waves. Because these fins attach to your legs, your feet are free and kick power comes from your hips. This uses the stronger muscles in your thighs, buttocks and torso. So you get better wave control and faster body surfing, with less fatigue.

This other body surfing review shows how they don’t give you muscle, ankle or heel pain. You can also use them for bodyboarding. What’s more, these hip power fins leave your feet free to stand, kneel and drop-knee on boards.
