Swim instruction fins reviews

  • Bilateral below-knee amputations swimming fins

Doug’s shinfinTM fins enabled him to quickly return to his previous swimming level after his bilateral below-knee amputations. He finds his fins give him similar control, steering and stability as he had when he had feet. They also allow him to pull harder with his arms for powerful whole-body exercise. This is because the left fin kick balances his right arm pull and vice versa. He thinks he may eventually be a better swimmer with shinfinTM fins than he was before his amputations! He loves them so much he bought another pair so he is never without them, and to loan to friends.

    Doug’s review from Coquitlam, Canada

“I had bilateral belowknee amputations last April, and my prosthetist told me about shinfinTM fins for swimming. I got mine in October, and they were an immediate success. I’ve been swimming regularly since, and found myself able to get back to my previous swimming level quite quickly, despite not having been able to swim for 2+ years. I now swim 2 km in under an hour, twice weekly. I have found the fins give me the same sort of stability, steering, and control that I had when I had feet. I’m now learning to use my legs for powerful kicking in a few ways. So I may eventually be better than I was before my amputations. I’m loving being back in the water.”

“I really appreciate your passion and dedication to making the experience of using shinfinTM fins positive for so many people individually. I have, indeed, found that kicking with the shinfinTM fins opposite to my arm pulls, allows me to pull harder with my arms. They really help me make swimming even more of a whole-body exercise. I have ordered a second set of shinfinTM fins because my wife said I shouldn’t chance ever being without a pair. Also, I’m keen to let some of my friends with feet try them out (and I certainly don’t want to give mine up for that!).”

  • Best muscle sets & no feet cramping fins

Like many people, Sue finds it great that shinfinTM fins use her best muscle sets and avoid cramping her feet, unlike foot fins. This is because they encourage her to kick from her hips. Most important, they are comfortable without cramping her feet because they don’t fit on her feet. So her feet are free!

    Sue’s review from Canberra, Australia

“The shinfinTM fins are great. I can definitely feel the change in the muscle sets that are used with the shinfinTM fins compared to the other foot fins. I have also had no more problems with cramping in my feet. No questions at this time, thank you for your follow-up.”

  • Foot amputation & sensitive skin: learn to swim fins

Dawn’s ten year old son has a partial foot amputation and sensitive skin from burns, so he loves his shinfinTM fins for learning to swim. Because his skin is very thin and sensitive due to his burns, he wears the fins over socks. Most important, as they strap above his ankles, his feet are free. That is why his foot amputation doesn’t affect the fin operation, unlike with regular foot fins. So his swim instructor sees a big improvement in his swimming.

    Dawn’s review from Currimundi, Australia

“My son [age 10] loves the fins. Because of his partial amputation of one foot and loss of muscles due to burns, he has always had trouble kicking. With shinfinTM fins he is able to kick very well. His teacher, who told us about the fins, has seen a big improvement in his swimming. Thanks, Dawn.”

  • Teach, bodyboard, body surf & snorkel: multi-use fins

Anne finds her shinfinTM fins great for many uses: from teaching squad swimmers and beginners, through to surf swimming, bodyboarding, body surfing and snorkeling. She likes the extra propulsion with the natural kick technique, streamlined body and no leg cramps. What’s more, sharing the fins is easy, as one size fits most. She also likes that they fit securely, so don’t fall off in surf wipe outs.

    Anne’s review from Kilmore, Australia

First, swim teaching. “The shinfinTM fins are great. They enable swimmers to practice the correct kicking technique, and to maintain it after they take the fins off. Very useful in teaching dolphin kick and butterfly for this reason. One size fits most, so no more scrambling around for the right sized fins, which saves me a great deal of time poolside. Great for squad level swimmers. Especially useful for adult students who are learning to swim from scratch. Natural kicking action with extra propulsion to help maintain streamlined body position and buoyancy. Assist with overall water confidence. Happy to endorse a product this good.”

Then, in the surf. “My shinfinTM fins were fantastic for surf swimming, bodyboarding and body surfing. Compared to “normal” fins I had less dramas getting into the surf. Great to swim & paddle in. Didn’t come off even when I wiped out. Also found them great when snorkeling. No leg cramps.”

  • Swim technique fins for all ages

Ralph uses shinfinTM fins to improve the swimming technique of his grandchildren of all ages, for freestyle, backstroke and butterfly. The fins encourage them to activate their stronger muscles by kicking from their hips with straighter knees, and build up their stamina and muscle memory.

    Ralph’s review from Delran, USA

“I have found that shinfinTM fins are a positive alternative to promoting a more anatomical utilization of the muscles for freestyle, backstroke and butterfly. Just swim freestyle across the pool and feel the fins aid in your leg motions. The fins encourage the muscles of the upper leg, gluteus, lower back and abs to rhythmically move the legs. Presto! That was fun, easy and fast. Your legs do get tired as they react to the exercise and build muscle but it’s more advantageous to practice something technically more correct than perfecting self-defeating inappropriate muscle memory.”

  • Flatter swim style without fins hurting feet

Diana has found that shinfinTM fins teach a flatter swimming style without hurting her feet like regular flippers. Furthermore, she swims more horizontally in the water with a better swim technique, even when she takes her fins off.

Diana’s review from Tweed Heads, Australia

“The shinfinTM fins are great. It’s the first time I have been able to use flippers without hurting my feet so I am really happy.”
