Strengthening & propulsion: below knee amputee 1 & 2 fins

Rob, a below knee amputee, finds shinfinTM fins work really well for strengthening his leg and giving better propulsion. He finds the resistance and extra propulsion from just one fin on his stump helps him strengthen that leg. However, wearing both fins gives him better overall swimming and more propulsion. This is because shinfinTM fins encourage a streamlined kick with minimal knee bend, for amputees and non-amputees. So this gives him kick power from his hips which strengthens the larger muscles in his core body, buttocks and thighs.

Rob’s review from Whitethorn, USA

“I’m doing really well with my shinfinTM fins. You might like to know I am an amputee (left, below the knee). I find that it’s best for me to just use one fin on my residual limb. Without the fin there’s not enough resistance and with it I get more propulsion than the other leg. It works really well for me. I did try it with two fins and it works good. It’s better with two. But for now I need to strengthen my one leg, so I’ll continue to use just one. It’s a great product.”

After osteosarcoma surgery: effective kick & flotation fins

shinfinTM fins lift Stuart’s legs horizontal to give him an effective streamlined kick with more flotation, for his aquatic therapy after extensive osteosarcoma surgery to his left leg. This is because his forward swimming motion gently pushes the fins upwards. This lifts his knees, legs, hips and upper body horizontal, for less drag and smooth swimming. Without shinfinTM fins, his legs sink. He can’t use standard foot fins.

Stuart’s review from Dapto, Australia

“I have found the shinfinTM fins very useful for me as I couldn’t use standard fins. I was unable to use my left leg for effective kicking, prior to using the shinfinTM fins, due to the effect of extensive surgery to remove an osteogenic sarcoma. The leg also tended to drag and sink. The shinfinTM fins have allowed me to more or less have a normal kicking action and have also provided a degree of flotation. I am very impressed with the shinfinTM fins.”

Below knee amputee lap swimming fins

The very first time he used them, Dave, a below knee amputee, felt his lap swimming greatly improved by shinfinTM fins. They help him get up onto the water, lifting his thighs horizontal and his body streamlined. So he no longer drags his backside along. This is because shinfinTM fins encourage smooth horizontal swimming, with more flutter kick power from his hips.

Dave’s review from Snoqualmie, USA

“I am a below knee amputee. I wanted to get back into swimming and was finding that doing a normal flutter kick my progress was not good. In fact, I either stayed in the same place or actually went backwards. Used the shinfinTM fins and what a great improvement! Back to getting power out of the kicks. I was able to get up on the water and enjoy doing laps again rather than literally dragging my backside along. Thank you very much for creating and supplying them.”

Butterfly technique training session fins

By converting his training sessions from foot fins to shinfinTM fins, Isarez significantly improves his butterfly technique. He feels them enhancing his body hydrodynamics by giving him the correct tension distribution in his lower body, legs and feet. This is because they give him the correct power from his hips. Furthermore, his body remembers his new shinfinTM enhanced butterfly technique, even after he takes them off for training sessions without fins. He gets good training from going into flip-turns a bit harder until the fins lift out of the water, and pushing off with both feet contacting the wall.

Isarez’s review from London, UK

“I am a butterfly enthusiast. Your shinfinTM fins are worth the extra money, especially for swimmers who are technique-focused. I usually felt I learnt nothing technically from foot fins. In contrast, the shinfinTM fins make me feel true to my body. They give the correct tension distribution throughout the lower-body, legs and feet. This, therefore, enhances the body’s hydrodynamics properly while focusing on and maintaining technique. Taking off the fins, I already feel that I learned to lift up more efficiently in the butterfly (clearing the water surface less vertically for breathing). I must thank you for inventing the shinfinTM fins.”

Strong kick muscle memory: learn to swim fins

Emely’s shinfinTM fins help her learn to swim with a stronger kick because they teach her a proper kick with a strong muscle memory. Most importantly, her muscle memory persists for her stronger kick even after she takes off her fins. This is because the fins are specifically designed to teach her and strengthen a proper kick from the hips for freestyle, backstroke and butterfly.

Emely’s review from Pasadena, USA

“I LOVE my shinfinTM fins!! At 43 (2 years ago) I got over my fear of deep water and learned how to swim. My kick was weak and I’ve had such a hard time learning how to strengthen it. I used your shinfinTM fins for the first time and immediately took to them! I felt HOW my leg should be moving … amazing! When I take them off, the muscle memory is strong, and I now know what a proper kick feels like in my body. Thank you so much for creating such an invaluable tool for swimmers. I’m so grateful to you! My newfound passion for swimming continues to be stoked!”

No calf cramp, no back pain & backstroke: training fins

Unlike foot flippers, shinfinTM fins don’t give Adriana calf cramps or low back pain for her swim training and she can even use them for backstroke. This is because they give her a smooth swimming stroke which uses her thigh muscles, without cramping her calf muscles. What’s more, because they lift her thighs horizontal, that’s why they give her no low back pain too. So, overall they are much more comfortable for her.

Adriana’s review from Asheville, USA

“The shinfinTM fins are great! I am very happy with your product, and proudly show it to everybody at the pool! Thank you for coming up with such a wonderful product!! Once again, thank you for your wonderful customer service and the marvelous shinfinTM fins that are helping me so much with my favourite sport.”

Legs work better: faster club training fins

Like many swim training club members, shinfinTM fins help Reto to swim faster and make his legs work better. This is because shinfinTM fins let him kick with his own swimming style, without messing up his kick like foot flippers do. So this is why Reto feels his swimming style with shinfinTM fins is very similar to swimming without fins. Just what he wants for his swim training.

Reto’s review from Dubendorf, Switzerland

“I’m very happy with shinfinTM fins and I have several friends that want to order them too. What I like most is that the feeling for the water when you swim with shinfinTM fins is almost the same as without. The only difference is that I feel my legs work better and that I’m faster!!!! The swim club members are wondering what I wear but they hesitated until now to ask.”

Below knee amputation with knee replacement fins

Audrey’s shinfinTM fins allow her to enjoy swimming again after her knee replacement surgery and below knee amputation. They have made a huge difference to her swimming technique, ability and momentum because they give her equal kick power in both her legs. So she can now swim in a straight line again too! Also, her prosthetist altered the buckles because she has weak fingers due to arthritis.

Audrey’s review from Victoria, Canada

“I’m an amputee and they have given me back my enjoyment in swimming. They are just the best! Now I can swim in a straight line and with some momentum. Thank you! I now have equal kicking power in both legs. I’ve told so many people about these fins. I’m so glad to be able to get back swimming as I thought I would have to give it up after my surgery because it was such a struggle to swim with 1/2 legs.” And months later: “I’m still using the fins faithfully and thoroughly enjoying them. They have made a huge difference to my swimming ability.”

No ankle strain: pool lap training fins

Pool lap training with shinfinTM fins, over 8 years, has been fantastic for Terry because they avoid the ankle strain he gets with normal flippers. This is because they strap to his legs just above his ankles. So they are comfortable without adding extra straining forces through his ankles. Furthermore, they keep him streamlined in the water, even for gentle kicking. Then they give him the extra speed for swim training when he increases his leg power.

Terry’s review from Peregian Beach, Australia

“I swim laps at the pool. Wearing the shinfinTM fins keeps me streamlined in the water. Just gently moving my legs is enough to keep me streamlined but if I use a bit of leg power I pick up speed. Having fragile ankles, I find normal flippers place strain on my ankles. But the shinfinTM fins are fantastic, no strain and they work beautifully. I couldn’t be happier with my shinfinTM fins and would recommend them to anyone, bad ankles or not. Thanks.”

Don’t aggravate Achilles: smooth lap swimming fins

For about 15 years, shinfinTM fins have allowed Francis to swim laps again, with a smooth swimming style that doesn’t aggravate his Achilles tendons. He finds them fantastic for freestyle and backstroke, feeling them adding strength to his hip areas and the rest of his legs. This is because they give a smooth kick action which is more comfortable. Being lightweight yet very tough, they allow relaxed feet and supple ankles, which takes the strain off his Achilles tendons.

Francis’ review from Mount Eliza, Australia

“The shinfinTM fins have been fantastic. Great for swimming smoothly, controlling the fast-paced foot kicking action that aggravated my Achilles. Allowing me to continue lap swimming, something I really want to do! So they have been great, worth every cent!”

“I have had my shinfinTM fins now for close to 15 years and absolutely love them. Put simply, they allowed me to keep swimming! Ironically, I damaged my Achilles using regular flippers and was told by a doctor that continuing to swim might hurt it again. Especially as I have a sort of flapping action when I kick my feet, whipping them up and down in the kicking action. The shinfinTM fin requires you to kick more from the thigh down, and takes the pressure off the feet. So I swim a reasonably long way, and on a regular basis, without pain. I highly recommend them.”
