Back surgery recovery & pool walking: rehabilitation fins

Fitness swimming and pool walking with shinfinTM fins, plays a major role in Diane’s rehabilitation and recovery from major back surgery. The fins strengthen the muscles in her back, lower abdomen and core because they encourage kicking from her hips. What’s more, they help her learn to swim higher in the water with straighter legs. She is unable to kick normal foot flippers because they bend her back painfully. You can read about her wonderful recovery progress with shinfinTM fins over a year or so.

Diane’s review from Queensland, Australia

“My back is improving and so is my fitness level thanks to the fins. I try to swim with them 5 mornings a week for at least 1.5 hours. Your fins made it possible for me to learn to swim high in the water with minimal leg movement. They also strengthened my back and lower abdominal muscles by encouraging me to kick with a straighter leg than I would normally. I have also enjoyed walking in the pool. When walking I leave my fins on and they encourage me to stabilize my core muscles and carry myself up tall and straight. I don’t have to lift my feet any higher than my normal gait.”

“I am very impressed with your shinfinTM fins and believe they have played a major role in my recovery. So I highly recommend them for anyone in my position and see many benefits for people with a variety of physical challenges. Once again, thank you for a wonderful product.”

After her first session with the fins

“Thank you for the prompt supply of shinfinTM fins and for the added email information. I had a opportunity to try the fins and found them difficult to put on with my back limiting movement. I persevered and found them challenging to use as my kick strength is still weak. All these sound negative but the positives are, whilst my back felt sore afterwards it was only muscle tightness from exercise. I could feel that they were working the muscles which I’m working on. Apart from my back, I know that with continued use my derriere will shrink.”

“They were great for water resistance in walking up and down the pool. They certainly make you ride high in the water. Overall, after one session, my impression is that perseverance is needed to learn how to manage them including getting them on & off. I expect them to give me the outcome I need and want.”

“I look forward to using the fins again tomorrow and showing them to a physio at the end of the week.”

Thank you very much for your email, you raise valid points. I look forward to hearing how you get on after you have tried them a few more times and discussed them with your physio. Meanwhile, here is an improved description to help with the straps.

“My back is improving and so is my fitness level thanks to the fins. I try to swim with them 5 mornings a week for at least 1.5 hours.”

“I have shown them to a swimming coach. He felt that they would be great for some of his younger boys who don’t manage to get their legs high in the water.”

“The gentleman with Parkinson’s thinks they are wonderful and is looking forward to more opportunity to use them.”

I’m glad you are still convinced about the fins after all your regular swimming. Do you think the fins are specifically helping your back to strengthen and get better? I’d be very interested to hear what you think on this point. Where is your back pain?

Thank you also for your feedback from the gentleman with Parkinson’s. My father is actually a psychology professor at Edinburgh University, specialising in human movement and he does some work helping people with Parkinson’s. Perhaps you could ask the gentleman if he would like to contact me by phone or email. I’d be very interested to hear from him and we may be able to help a bit further.

All the best for a speedy recovery for you.

“I’ve referred someone, Graeme, to have a look at your site.”

Thanks Diane, Graeme did order a pair of fins.

Diane (after 4 months)

“Thank you for letting me know about Graeme. I’m sure he’ll find them as effective as I do.”

“My back is improving but it seems like I’ve been recovering all my life. The fins are going great for me.”

Graeme sent me an email to say that he is very happy with the fins. He said: “Yes the fins do work well. I’m working exactly the areas that need to be worked; lower back & down the coccyx, abdominals and thighs.”

Diane

“I believe in what they can do for many people. I will continue to promote them whenever the opportunity arrives.”

Many thanks for your email and for calling a week or so ago. Good to know you are regularly using your fins most days.

Diane (after 1 year)

“I’d like you to know what your shinfinTM fins have done for me. Sixteen months ago I had major back surgery and along with hydrotherapy decided to take up swimming. I am mature aged and had not been swimming for some 30 odd years. I found I am unable to use ordinary flippers as they tend to make me bend my back when kicking, causing pain.”

“Your fins made it possible for me to learn to swim high in the water with minimal leg movement. They also strengthened my back and lower abdominal muscles by encouraging me to kick with a straighter leg than I would normally.”

“I have also enjoyed walking in the pool. When walking I leave my fins on and they encourage me to stabilize my core muscles and carry myself up tall and straight. I don’t have to lift my feet any higher than my normal gait.”

Conclusion

After major back surgery, fitness swimming and pool walking with shinfinTM fins can really help your rehabilitation and recovery. Because they encourage kicking from your hips, the fins strengthen the muscles in your back, lower abdomen and core. Furthermore, they help you learn to swim higher in the water, for streamlined kicking with straighter legs.

Another review also shows how shinfinTM fins help lumbar back surgery rehabilitation, with much less pain in anklesknees and back. A further review demonstrates rehabilitation after hip replacement through water walking exercise and lap swimming. Two more reviews show them being used for recovery from a broken leg and recovery from a broken foot and Achilles.
