For many years, Harley has found shinfinTM fins fantastic for his lap swimming because they don’t bend his ankles, so they don’t trigger gout arthritis pains in his ankle, foot, heel and knee. This is because they strap above his ankles, leaving his ankles and feet free. In contrast, conventional foot fins strain his ankles, which can cause a gout arthritis attack.
Harley’s review from Brisbane, Australia
“I have had the fins for about 4 years and have used them every year for about 3 months in summer swimming laps. They have been fantastic, as they put no bending moment on my ankles. I suffer from gout from time to time and if I use conventional swim fins my ankles take strain and that can lead to a gout attack. This is not a pleasant experience believe me. Your shinfinTM fins are a marvellous invention.”
Harley’s review: Lap fins for no arthritis gout pains in ankle, foot, heel & knee
“I have had the fins for about 4 years and have used them every year for about 3 months in summer swimming laps at QLD university pool. They have been fantastic, as they put no bending moment on my ankles.”
“I suffer from gout from time to time and if I use conventional swim fins my ankles take strain and that can lead to a gout attack. This is not a pleasant experience believe me.”
“Your shinfinTM fins are a marvellous invention and after 4 years the straps broke and so I ordered a new pair. The fins themselves are as good as the day I bought them and only a bit of discolouring where the straps feed through the fin is the only evidence of age. I would not hesitate to buy a new pair should the need arise. So please keep them on the market.”
“I have had a couple of people ask me what they are. I tell them shinfinTM fins, they are on the internet and explain why I wear them. You are welcome to use my situation as an example for any one else suffering from an arthritic condition.”

That is wonderful to hear. Thank you for your kind permission. And thank you for spreading the shinfinTM word too. Personal recommendation is very important to help a new product like this along, so I really appreciate it. If you have anything more to add, to help explain your experiences using the fins with your arthritic condition, please let me know. Do you get the gout in both ankles, and just in the ankles?
Yes, the polyurethane fins are extremely tough. Sunlight and chlorine water won’t really affect them, so you should get many years of use from the fins. The straps are made from a high quality natural rubber with UV protection. But time, sunlight and chlorine will slowly degrade and crack the rubber. To increase the life, please rinse the fins after use (especially the straps). Keep them out of the sun and keep away from sharp objects.

“I suffer from gout only occasionally (3 or 4 times a year) and mostly in the right foot, ankle and heel. Usually anti-inflammatory drugs for a few days take care of this. Sometimes in the right knee and left foot but the right foot is my demon.”

Conclusion
Lap swimming and other water activities with shinfinTM fins, doesn’t trigger gout arthritis pains in your ankles, feet, heels or knees, because they don’t bend your ankles. They leave your ankles and feet free by strapping above your ankles. This is very different to conventional foot fins, which strain your ankles because they attach to your feet. That can result in gout arthritis attacks.
